I'm Andrew Ladd
I wrote a novel called What Ends. Lots of people with important opinions said it was good. (I liked it too.)
I also write shorter things.
During the day I help build websites. (I built this one by myself.)
Before that, I did a lot of work selling tickets, and making people want to buy more tickets.

I wrote my first zine when I was ten, and never looked back. Over the years I've worked as an editor, a university writing teacher, a writing tutor, a technical writer, and a freelance journalist.
In my current day job, I also write proposals, marketing copy, and website copy.
Here's some of my published work.
Short stories
- "The Picture" in Cimarron Review
- “Degenerate Progenitors” in Kenyon Review
Essays and articles
- “Why publishers should embrace the film world's enthusiasm for releasing a director's cut” in The New Statesman
- "Theatres must get used to social distancing — it's what audiences want" in The Stage
- "Errands With Andre" a profile of Andre Dubus III, in The Good Men Project
Building websites
I work at Ten4 Design, a digital agency, where I help build websites for brilliant cultural institutions like Durham Cathedral, Saffron Hall, and Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club.
I research what a website needs to do, plan what content it needs to have, and work out how users will find their way around. I also project manage the design and build process from start to finish.
I don't do any development at Ten4, but I did build this website myself using Gatsby.
Ticketing and arts marketing
I worked at the Edinburgh Fringe for 13 years.
Since then, I've also worked on West End shows, other summer and winter festivals in London and Edinburgh, and even at a puppet theatre in Boston.
I often present at industry conferences. You might have seen me recently at:
- "Ticketing without a ticketing system" at the Ticketing Professionals Conferene 2023
- "Why you should get rid of your What's On page" at the Arts Marketing Association Conference 2022
- "What cathedrals can teach you about ticketing websites" at the Ticketing Professionals Conferene 2022
